A Fluoride Treatment Can Help Maintain Strong Teeth

Posted .

A consistent oral hygiene routine and regularly scheduled dental checkups are critical components of maintaining a healthy mouth. Every dental checkup performed at our dental office will clean your teeth while also monitoring your mouth for any newly developing oral health problem.

If our dentist notices signs of demineralized tooth enamel, our dentists, Dr. Samantha Marley-Harrod, Dr. K. Cullen Harrod, or Dr. J. Mike Buchanan, might recommend administering a fluoride treatment. This simple measure can help bolster some of the mineral density of your tooth enamel. This can greatly reduce your chances of suffering problems with cavities and tooth sensitivity.

It can often be performed at the end of the appointment. We will pour a small amount of concentrated fluoride gel into curved trays. They will be inserted in your mouth along with a suction wand. You will need to bite down lightly for a few minutes while the fluoride soaks into the microscopic pores of your tooth enamel.

It’s important to keep in mind that a fluoride treatment cannot treat an active cavity. If we find an area of tooth decay on one of your teeth we will help you understand your treatment options. This could come in the form of applying dental filling or performing a dental crown restoration.
